Cedric Burnside Album Release Show w/ Duquette Johnston

Cedric Burnside Album Release Show w/ Duquette Johnston

We're proud to have Cedric Burnside celebrate the release of "Benton County Relic," his new album with Single Lock Records

Cedric was literally born to the blues, more specifically, the "rhythmically unorthodox" Hill country variant which emerged from Mississippi. Starting at an early age, he played drums for the man he called "Big Daddy": his grandfather, blues legend R.L. Burnside. He grew up surrounded (and influenced) by Junior Kimbrough, Jessie May Hemphill and Otha Turner, as well as delta musicians T-Model Ford and Paul 'Wine' Jones. But Benton County Relic is anything but history, the rich tradition of Hill country blues dragged kicking and screaming into the modern-day with crackling electricity amid its nod to life’s essentials. If the blues has traditionally been about getting through hard times, Benton County Relic offers the kind of deep baring of the soul that enables us to transcend oppression, whether in the 19th century or in the precarious present. Read more of this incredible album's story here: http://www.singlelock.com/cedric-burnside

A mainstay of the Alabama music scene, Duquette Johnston has been making incredible records with his feet planted in Birmingham for over 20 years. With a palette that pulls from rock, Americana, and a plethora of more adventurous sonic roads, excellent songwriting stays at the heart of what Johnston is known for.

Dead Fingers w/ Kyle Kimbrell

Dead Fingers w/ Kyle Kimbrell

Dead Fingers are pillars of the Birmingham music scene. Excellent songwriters and performers with a hand in a range of other projects, Taylor Hollingsworth and Kate Taylor join forces to beautifully harmonize over washes of bluesy folk. More: "Since 2012's eponymous debut on Big Legal Mess Records, Dead Fingers have taken stock of the dynamic changes their lives have undergone. Kate and Taylor being first time parents has added new perspective to their road weary travelogues and broke beat folk/country/blues hybrid.
They made their way through the ranks of indie-rock reality checks both with each other and on their own. From Taylor's earliest days as a lo-fi axe slinger shredding J. Mascis-by way of-Johnny Thunders riffage on You Know That Summer's Coming, to his time spent touring with Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, and Kate's lifelong tutelage in one of the most gifted musical families in the Magic City, there's little that has missed these two. They fostered their songwriting skills through years of hard won apprenticeships and also toured extensively throughout the US and in Europe sharing the stage with Jason Isbell, Maria Taylor, and Leon Redbone."

Kyle Kimbrell Music keeps the Birmingham songwriter lineage going with his own blues inflected tunes!

Doors at 7PM. $7 pre, $10 doors.

Party For The Friths II

Party For The Friths II

Well, we are throwing another party for the Frith family. In an effort to explain while sparing too many public details I will keep this as brief as possible. Some of you are already close to the Frith family and know plenty as to why this is taking place. For those that do not know the Friths they were touched by cancer a few years ago. They are a much loved family whose influence, love, and respect weaves through every aspect and social class of this area. Strong supporters of local music and far beyond. Cancer struck their dear daughter a few years ago and we threw the first party to help them. Grandma of the group was in a bad car accident and left in a wheel chair. And, just as it seemed the family might be cancer free mama bear was also diagnosed with cancer. Through all this and all these years this family has been strong, never asks for help or pity, always are kind and willing to help anyone else out of any jam. It’s been a 1,2,3 punch for this family in a pretty short amount of time. We who love them want to help. The Shoals Yacht Rock Collective has come together to work as the backing band for a unique set at 116 E. Mobile St. They will back a set of songs from Red Mouth, Russell Mefford, and Reid Ware. All musicians and artists are donating their time and 116 is waving their fees. A poster is coming soon from Heavy Color. ALL THE MONEY goes to the Frith family.

There is not a one of us that has not been touched by the evil hand of cancer. We cannot help everyone. But, that is not to stop us from helping someone. This family deserves it. Whether you know the Friths or not you will be helping all cancer patients by helping anyone. This performance will be one of a kind. Fun will be had for everyone and your money will be used for the betterment of mankind and our continued struggle towards a more civilized and caring world.

Doors at 7pm and show at 8pm. $15 at the door $10 in advance. If you wish to pay more that too will go to the Friths.
